Biography

Ingrid Mänd (née Roose) is active as a choral and orchestral conductor and is currently a freelance conductor and the head of Estonian Choral Conductors  Association. 

Mänd has been engaged in both concert and staged productions. In 2019, she led the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra, 120 singers, and 12 soloists in a gala concert celebrating 100 years of Estonian opera. She has conducted Benjamin Britten’s The Turn of the Screw as well as staged productions with the Chœur de l’Orchestre de Paris, including John Rutter’s BANG and Lewis Murphy’s Belongings. In addition, she has directed opera gala concerts featuring distinguished soloists such as Monika-Evelin Liiv, Arete Kerge, Karis Trass, and Raiko Raalik.

As a choirmaster, Mänd has collaborated with leading conductors including Esa-Pekka Salonen, Klaus Mäkelä, Dmitri Slobodeniouk, Tõnu Kaljuste, and Kaspar Mänd. Her work has included the preparation of major vocal-symphonic repertoire such as Mahler’s Symphonies Nos. 3 and 8, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, Esa-Pekka Salonen’s Karawane, Ravel’s Daphnis et Chloé, Poulenc’s Stabat Mater, and Tamberg’s Amores.

She has worked with several renowned ensembles, including the Chœur de l’Orchestre de Paris, Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir, Estonian National Male Choir, Estonian National Symphony Orchestra, Tallinn Chamber Orchestra, the Royal Academy of Music Symphony Orchestra in Stockholm, and the mixed choir of the Versailles Baroque Centre.

In October 2019, Mänd was awarded First Prize at the 9th International Competition for Young Conductors in Paris, organized by the European Choral Association, and received a special prize from the Chœur de l’Orchestre de Paris. In the same year, she was named Young Conductor of the Year by the Estonian Choral Association.

In 2014, she founded the female choir Kammerhääled, with which she has recorded two albums: Luiged läevad (“Swans Depart”, music by Pärt Uusberg) and Noore naise mõtted (“Thoughts of a Young Woman”, music by Rasmus Puur).

Mänd has conducted at the Estonian Song Festival in 2017, 2019, 2023, and 2025. From January 2022 to May 2023, she served as choirmaster of the Chœur de l’Orchestre de Paris.

In February 2023, she conducted the Presidential Gala Concert for Estonia’s Independence Day.
